Overcoming Depression without medication Proposal
Overcoming Depression without medication Proposal
Introduction:
Depression is becoming rampant in today's general public, it can require restorative
consideration such as looking for a specialist for determination and treatment. It is typical to
have little measures of bitterness or melancholy in various ways. Then again different people
have encountered a misfortune and it is absolutely ordinary to feel dismal and lament. Practically
everybody is on, or knows somebody who is on antidepressants, however the pharmaceuticals
given just treat the manifestations of dejection – not really the causes.
Diet, work out, inspiration, and light can all assume a part in mind-set and vitality levels. In any
case, once in a while more is required.
Research Rationale:
The research purpose is to address how to overcome depression without the use of drugs. As the
public narrative on depression as a health condition is often negative and feared by many it is
important to explore whether there are other ways through which depression can be taken care of
without the application off medicinal drugs.
The research will be conducted first by investigating the current situation on depression in
different parts of the word, the methods that have been applied and other applicable methods
apart from the use of drugs. The research will include Interviews with stakeholders in the
healthcare industry and patients who are suffering or have earlier on been exposed to depression.
Additionally, it will consist of surveys with the public who have dealt with people with
depression earlier on. They will provide crucial information on the alternative methods used in
dealing with the problem.
Research Objectives:
To understand the different ways that can be applied to deal with depression apart from
drugs
To understand the role of alternative methods in treating depression
To analyze the effectiveness of the methods over drugs
To provide recommendations for the healthcare system on the need to incorporate the
suggested methods
Research Questions:
How many patients around the world suffer from depression?
How do the healthcare system help the patients?
Are there other methods that can be used to treat depression apart from the use drugs?
How and to what extend has the alternative methods been able to help the patients?
How could the methods be made sustainable in dealing wot depression across all ages?
The Research Significance:
As mentioned before, depression could be very expensive to treat. It could require drugs that are
costly and that could lead to financial instability of a patient or the family. Moreover, the drugs
used could not be as effective. Methods that do not involve the use of drugs are at times used to
get similar if not better results than drugs. Some of these methods are self-induced while others
require the help of a professional. The methods have been found to work better than drugs and
for this reason, the alternatives could be highly recommended as opposed to the latter.
Literature Review:
To understand the different alternatives that could be and have been used in treating depression
in the past, we look at the different literature that have been written to shed light on depression.
Different authors have suggested different methods some of which seem better than others in
treating the condition.
According to Tedeschi, there have been several approaches to the situation some of which are
traditional and others modern. The traditional way to deal with treating misery is to adjust certain
neurotransmitters with medications. (Tedeschi, p.34) Drugs have their place, however a large
number of the ones focusing on discouragement are disappointments. They regularly work and in
addition fake treatments, and they have a great deal of undesirable reactions. Much the same as
statins, these medications don't focus on the genuine reason for the malady – simply the
manifestations. They may help in the short term, however to truly take care of the issue you have
to settle it with a more all-encompassing framework considering, elective strategies. In his work,
(Beck, p.12) suggests four main activities to help fight depression at either early or late stages.
The four activities include spending time outside, happiness, diet and exercise.
When one diverts their consideration regarding the positive, the serotonin levels increment. It has
been known for a considerable length of time that musings can adjust blood stream to the
cerebrum, yet just as of late have researchers found that how one supposes can likewise change
neurotransmitter levels. Reflection has been appeared to expand dopamine levels, and sentiments
of bliss additionally modify serotonin levels in one’s cerebrum (Janssen, p.32).
Low serotonin receptor capacity is connected with poor disposition, and high serotonin levels are
connected with better inclination. Essentially, while low serotonin may make one feel dismal,
feeling upbeat may likewise build the serotonin levels. It is not clear which is all the more
effective, but rather one approach to expand serotonin might be through psychotherapy strategies
like psychological behavioural treatment, reflection that truly fortifies the part of the cerebrum in
charge of turning on the "happy state." (Paykel & Priest, p.87) Brilliant light treatment is
particularly viable in pregnant ladies. On a marginally horrifying note, post-mortems have
demonstrated that individuals who pass on in the mid-year have higher serotonin levels than the
individuals who passed on in the winter. In studies where they intentionally limit tryptophan to
lower serotonin levels, splendid light keeps the ordinary drop in serotonin levels. In the event
that one have been experiencing despondency or unexplained pity, attempting to get outside
more regularly is vital.
Research Methodology:
Type of investigation:
The research will examine available literature on the topic and will combine the two methods;
exploratory study, to allow deeper understanding of the situation by offering some open
questions to the participants, which will enable me to draw conclusions based on the information
gathered, and descriptive study, to provide a summary of the questionnaire and to better describe
the phenomena (Tedeschi, p.89).
Data collection method:
The data for the research will be compiled with qualitative and quantitative research. I will
conduct unstructured interviews with key members of the elatcre system and the patients as well.
The interviews are essential to understand and investigate the processes better.
Accessibility issues:
It is vital to conduct the interviews with the key members of staff in the healthcare department as
well as people who have dealt with depression before either using drugs or using alternative
means. in order to obtain the most accurate information, it would be necessary to travel to their
places to have a direct personal contact with them.
Ethical Issues:
Ethical concerns are influenced by the type of investigation and chosen methods and they are
possible at any stage; research proposal, data collection, sampling, analyzing and submitting
your findings (Robins, p.56). There are two main ethical issues that I can detect whilst working
on my research, legal permissions and consent. It would be necessary to acquire consent form the
patients or families as well as the medical practitioners to use their information in writing my
report.
Data Analysis Plan:
The data will be analyzed by using the qualitative information gathered during the interviews, to
form an understanding of the alternative methods of fighting depression without drugs the
questionnaire will provide quantitative information and will be analyzed by collecting the
feedback and comparing the results to suggest patterns and figures.
